The SavageMan International Bike Course
The SavageMan International bike course is a 23 mile single loop course that shares the first two and final 12 miles of the SavageMan Half bike course. While the SavageMan International bike course avoids the plunging descents and heart-pounding climbs of the SavageMan Half, the course does give a flavor of the SavageMan experience with beautiful country scenery and undulating roads with a scattering of short, steep climbs. A hilly course by other triathlon standards, the SavageMan International course provides a challenging yet fair alternative for those desiring a shorter or less savage bike course than the SavageMan Half.

The 23 mile bike course includes 1800 feet of climbing with one steep pitch that will earn International athletes their Savage pedigree. While the International bike course avoids the Westernport Wall and Big Savage Mountain, it does provide a taste of the SavageMan experience and cyclists should come prepared. Average cyclists should have a 27 tooth cog, and weaker cyclists should have a triple front chainring or compact cranks.

** It is of utmost importance that riders ensure their bikes are in good working condition as this bike course includes some steep, technical descents. There is a mandatory pre-race bike check and athletes whose bikes do not pass inspection will not be permitted to start the SavageMan International.

SavageMan International Bike Course Preview
Athletes exit the transition area in Deep Creek Lake State Park and follow the first two miles of the SavageMan Half bike course. After diverging, cyclists head northwards through Garrett County on rolling roads and past spectacular views including the stunning Monroe Run Vista. Shortly after this spectacular sight, riders take a left turn onto Frank Brenneman Rd and are met with another spectacular, less desirable sight: a short, very steep climb over the Meadow Mountain ridgeline. A few more miles of beautiful rolling terrain and cyclists rejoin the SavageMan Half course and follow the same course for the final 12 miles. This concluding section is mostly flat and fast and culminates in a gradual descent to the lake and scenic State Park Road into the transition at Deep Creek Lake State Park.

An aid station will be available to riders with water, energy gels, and energy drinks at mile 14.
