The SavageMan Half Run Course - New for 2008
The SavageMan Half run course is a scenic 13.1 mile double loop course that runs along the shores of Deep Creek Lake, through the expansive State Park campgrounds, and along lakeside roads. The run course is new for 2008 with no climb to the top of Meadow Mountain due to deteriorated trail conditions.
11 of the 13.1 miles are on paved roads with the remainder on smooth gravel roads.
The SavageMan Half Run Course Preview
While not as savage as the bike course, the SavageMan Half run course is far from easy with tough hills through the campground and a challenging climb to the turnaround on the Thayerville Fire Tower Road.
The run course exits transition area and runs along a well-packed gravel road next to the lake for the length of the State Park and behind the Deep Creek State Park Discovery Center. Runners then take a right on State Park Rd and quickly left onto Brant Rd. After a turnaround on Brant Rd, runners head into the State Park campgrounds for a full circumnavigation of the campgrounds and return to State Park Rd.
A two mile jaunt on State Park Rd leads to a 1/4 mile climb up Thayerville Fire Tower Road and a turnaround. Runners return to State Park Rd and down Meadow Mountain Lane and re-enter the State Park and complete the loop. After the second loop runners become a SavageMan at the finish line in front of the pavilions and spectators lining the lake.
Aid stations are available every 1 - 1.5 miles with water, energy gel, energy drink, salt tablets, pretzel, and Coke.
